The Village Green Project
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. Village Green is a Climate Challenge funded project which aims to help us reduce our carbon footprint. The project covers the area south of Edinburgh from Howgate to Kirkurd on the A701 and from Silverburn along the A702 to Carlops and all the areas in between.

We all know that our everyday activities, such as heating and lighting our homes and driving the car, emit large amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases that contribute to climate change. However, these issues are complex in our area with many older stone houses, no mains gas supply and the shops and amenities all a long distance away. Therefore, Village Green has these main strands:
- Helping all of us to increase the energy efficiency of our homes and reduce energy loss;
- Encouraging and facilitating the use of wood fuel;
- Investigating possibiities for local energy generation;
- Enabling us to reduce our travel emissions;
- Building and sharing knowledge and expertise in our community.
